BCFE rallied outside the Dail yesterday against the increased ratio to the student population.  This morning BCFE have been all over the media gaining momentum to the save BCFE campaign. Across all the media platforms BCFE’s deputy principal Kevin Devine spoke of the impact upon BCFE and the up coming cuts.

Kevin Devine, deputy principal at Ballyfermot College of Further Education, said the impact of the cuts on Ballyfermot College were

“simply a matter of simple arithmetic.”

Mr Devine said the loss of specialist expertise would have a devastating effect.

“We would lose nine to ten teachers…Some of the courses we would lose would be a specialist music rock school, a pre-nursing class, at least one if not two or three animation classes.”

He also added on Morning Ireland that the loss of specialist staff will result in fewer courses being offered at such colleges.

Mr Devine said it will mean

“some courses will have to be cancelled and, therefore, it will mean fewer places for students, with a knock-on effect for the following year”.
